Liefkenshoek rail link

In addition to the electrical feeding of the trains in the tunnel, there is also a need for power for the emergency services, which include: lighting, ventilation,┬ásignalization,…

For the new Liefkenshoek rail link, underneath the Port of Waasland, the Scheldt and the Canal dock, Omexom built twelve substations, each consisting of two redundant medium voltage cabins with transfo.

These substations are spread over the total length of the 16 km long tunnel, with a feeding station in each section. Because of the redundancy there is always, for each part of the tunnel, a back-up cabin in case of a breakdown, thus one cabin can be maintained while the second one continues to ensure the power supply.
